Oh my! There are so many wonderful experiences that parents have as they raise their children. I have not had the experience of raising but one child, my son. He has been a blessing to the lives of his family and those he has encountered throughout his life time. We’ve all learned from him and have become better individuals because of his precious place in our lives.
Scott was diagnosed at 8 months of age as having cerebral palsy and a seizure disorder. I’ll say just a bit about him now and later will tell you more.
First, I’d like you to know that with Scott’s HCBS wavier, our life changed dramatically. Because of his seizures, set off by sounds such as a sniff or cough, it made it very difficult to go to virtually any place alone with him.
One day, Scott and I were in a Wichita Walmart, when he had a seizure set off by someone coughing. A miracle happened that day. A couple from Hutchinson, we didn’t know, came over to help us out. They took us to the hospital emergency room where Scott slowly recovered. They were our Guardian Angels that day.
Today, through the HCBS wavier Scott’s Personal Care Attendant (PCA) is with us as we go where we need and want to go. And he goes places with his PCA without his mom tagging along.
